Apple Reportedly Testing Four Smart Glasses Designs

Apple Reportedly Testing Four Smart Glasses Designs

Apple may be arriving later than competitors in the smart glasses space, but the company appears to be exploring multiple directions, with reports suggesting it is testing up to four distinct designs. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple could ultimately release some or all of these versions.

Gurman reports that Apple is experimenting with several frame designs, including a large rectangular style reminiscent of Ray-Ban Wayfarers, a slimmer rectangular look similar to those worn by CEO Tim Cook, as well as both larger and smaller oval or circular options. The company is also said to be exploring color choices such as black, ocean blue, and light brown.

Apple’s forthcoming smart glasses, currently known internally as N50, are expected to go head-to-head with the second-generation Ray-Ban Meta model. While the devices may share similarities, the report suggests Apple could set its design apart with vertically oriented oval lenses surrounded by lighting elements.

Similar to Meta’s smart glasses, Apple’s upcoming device is expected to support photo and video capture. However, Gurman reports that it will place greater emphasis on integration with the iPhone, enabling features such as editing, sharing, calls, notifications, music playback, and access to its voice assistant. The launch could also align with a revamped version of Siri expected to debut with iOS 27.

Apple may introduce its smart glasses by late 2026 or early 2027, according to Gurman, with commercialization expected in 2027. In contrast, Meta has already shipped an updated model featuring improved prescription lens compatibility and enhanced fit customization.
