Nexperia China Says It Has Started Producing Its Own Chips

Amid a growing dispute with its Dutch parent company, Nexperia’s China-based unit said Monday that it has started making its own chips, a step that pushes it closer to operating independently.

The move deepens a fracture within the company that has been ongoing since late 2025, a split that has disrupted supply lines for automakers reliant on their components.

According to Reuters, In a statement published on its Chinese social media account, Nexperia China confirmed it has started manufacturing several types of chips that are also produced by Nexperia. However, the subsidiary is utilizing 12-inch wafers, a production scale that the Dutch parent company cannot currently facilitate in Europe.

This development is the latest chapter in a standoff that began in October 2025. The conflict was triggered by an intervention from the Dutch government, which sought to block Nexperia from moving its operations to China. Nexperia is owned by the Dutch entity but is controlled by Chinese parent company Wingtech.

Prior to the government’s intervention, the operational structure saw wafers produced in Europe and then shipped to China to be packaged into finished chips. Following the Dutch action, the company fractured. Nexperia China declared its independence, while Nexperia Europe halted wafer shipments to China, citing non-payment as the reason.

According to its latest statement, Nexperia China is now using 12-inch wafers to produce a range of products including bipolar discrete devices, Schottky rectifiers, and electrostatic discharge devices. These are described as simple chips that are also part of Nexperia’s existing product portfolio.

The announcement raises questions about the source of the 12-inch wafers now being used by the Chinese operation. According to Reuters, Nexperia China couldn’t immediately be reached for clarification. However, Wingtech founder Zhang Xuezheng controls Shanghai Dingtai Jiangxin Technology Co., Ltd, also known as “WingSkySemi.” This facility is a 12-inch wafer fabrication plant in Shanghai that had previously cooperated with Nexperia before the dispute began.

Nexperia’s European headquarters declined to comment on the announcement.
