Samsung introduced a new foldable design at its July Galaxy Unpacked event and provided another preview of its upcoming smart glasses. The company announced Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Flip 8, Galaxy Watch 9, and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2. Samsung also shared new details about its smart glasses project, developed with Google, Warby Parker, and Gentle Monster, and unveiled a new branded credit card.
What the Three Phones Share
Samsung equipped all three foldable phones with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chipset. Each model starts with 12GB of RAM and offers either 256GB or 512GB of storage. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra are also available in a configuration with 16GB of RAM and 1TB of internal storage.
All three devices include a 10-megapixel wide-angle front-facing camera. The Galaxy Z Flip 8 and the cover displays on both Fold 8 models support 4K video recording at 60fps. Meanwhile, the primary selfie cameras on the Fold 8 series record in Full HD at 60fps.
Samsung’s new foldable lineup features a display technology called Flex Titanium. The design incorporates a titanium alloy layer beneath the flexible OLED panel, which the company says improves display support, better resists pressure and impacts, and minimizes the visibility of the crease. It is also intended to provide a smoother opening motion while maintaining a thin profile. However, the phones still don’t include native Qi2 magnetic charging. As with the Galaxy S25, users must attach a compatible magnetic case to access the full Qi2 charging experience.
Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, Samsung’s flagship foldable, starts at $2,100, making it $100 more expensive than last year’s Galaxy Z Fold 7. It features a 6.5-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X cover display and an 8-inch QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X main screen, both with adaptive refresh rates of up to 120Hz. Its rear camera setup includes a 200-megapixel primary sensor, a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera, and a 10-megapixel telephoto lens offering 3x optical zoom and up to 30x Space Zoom. The system also supports 8K video recording at 30fps.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is equipped with a 5,000mAh battery that supports 45W fast charging. It weighs 215 grams (7.6 ounces) and measures just 4.1mm thick when unfolded. Samsung also says the device uses a larger graphite cooling system to improve heat dissipation during demanding workloads.
Galaxy Z Fold 8
Samsung has priced the Galaxy Z Fold 8 from $1,900 and introduced a redesigned folding format. Unlike previous generations, the device folds horizontally, resulting in a wider overall shape. It includes a 7.6-inch QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED inner display with a 4:3 aspect ratio, along with a 5.5-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X cover display featuring a 10:16 aspect ratio and peak brightness of 3,000 nits. When folded, the phone is approximately 9mm (0.4 inches) wider than the Fold 8 Ultra and weighs 201 grams (7 ounces).
Unlike the Fold 8 Ultra, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 doesn’t feature a dedicated telephoto camera. Instead, it uses a dual-camera system with a 50-megapixel primary sensor and a 50-megapixel ultrawide lens. The setup supports up to 10x digital zoom and can record 8K video at 30fps. Samsung has also increased battery capacity to 4,800mAh, up from 4,400mAh on the Galaxy Z Fold 7, while retaining Super Fast Charging 2.0 and Super Fast Wireless Charging.
Galaxy Z Flip 8
Samsung also introduced the Galaxy Z Flip 8, which shares the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor, memory and storage options, and front camera capabilities with the Fold 8 lineup. However, the company didn’t provide a full breakdown of the Flip 8’s main display, rear cameras, or battery specifications during the presentation.
Galaxy Watch 9 and Watch Ultra 2
Samsung’s latest smartwatches, the Galaxy Watch 9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, are built around Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear Elite platform. The 3nm chip is the first in the Snapdragon wearable family to feature a dedicated Hexagon NPU, and Samsung says it has enough processing power to support AI models containing up to two billion parameters.
Smart Glasses and Galaxy Card
Samsung provided another look at its upcoming smart glasses, a project developed with Google, Warby Parker, and Gentle Monster. The company expects to launch two models later this year but has yet to announce pricing or a release date. The prototypes shown during Galaxy Unpacked feature integrated cameras. Samsung says the glasses can last up to nine hours on a single charge, while the charging case supplies up to seven additional full recharges. Powering the device is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 chipset.
In a separate announcement, Samsung unveiled the Samsung Galaxy Card, a new credit card that provides 5% cashback on eligible Samsung device purchases.
