Apple Rumored to Be Testing ‘Veritas’ - An AI Chatbot That Could Replace Siri

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that Apple has deployed an internal AI chatbot called Veritas to advance the development of Siri’s upcoming capabilities. The platform serves as a testing ground for several features the company intends to roll out, including enhanced local search functionality, sophisticated in-app operations such as image editing and file management, and more natural language processing.

The technology giant has been gathering feedback from employees who have been testing Veritas over an extended period. Despite this internal progress, Apple has apparently decided against releasing the chatbot through a public beta program. Gurman contends this approach may be shortsighted, arguing that external testing would yield valuable real-world insights that could substantially improve the software’s performance.

Industry sources indicate that Siri will undergo a substantial AI-driven transformation scheduled for March of next year, as Apple works to close the competitive gap with Google’s Gemini and OpenAI’s ChatGPT. This initiative, known internally as Project Linwood, will equip Siri with the ability to search both internet sources and on-device information while enabling comprehensive voice-based iPhone control.

On the hardware development front, Apple is advancing its next generation of MacBooks featuring the M5 processor family. Gurman’s sources suggest that the forthcoming MacBook Pro models could enter mass production between late 2025 and early 2026, with a possible market introduction in March. These updated 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro configurations are anticipated to incorporate M5, M5 Pro, and M5 Max processors.

More substantial design changes appear likely later in the year. Current speculation points to the MacBook Pro adopting OLED touchscreen technology, a slimmer profile, a reduced front notch, and cellular network capability. These variants are expected to utilize M6, M6 Pro, and M6 Max processors manufactured using TSMC’s advanced 2-nanometer fabrication process.

Additional reports indicate Apple is developing the iPhone 17e to succeed the entry-level iPhone 16e. While Gurman offered limited specifics regarding this device, he confirmed that updated versions of the iPad Pro, iPad Air, and standard iPad models are currently under development. The company has not yet established firm release schedules for these products.
