A well-known hacking crew claims it got into Rockstar Games cloud servers, and the company has confirmed there was a third-party data breach.
ShinyHunters, which has been associated with breaches affecting Microsoft, Google, and Ticketmaster, posted a message online warning Rockstar to “pay or leak.” The breach was first identified by Hackread.
ShinyHunters has not revealed what kind of data it accessed from Rockstar Games, but stated the company has until April 14 to get in touch or the information will be leaked, potentially causing “several annoying (digital) problems.”
Rockstar Games said in a statement to Kotaku that a limited amount of non-essential company information was accessed due to a third-party breach, and that there has been no impact on its operations or players.
In 2022, Rockstar Games faced a major breach that exposed gameplay footage and assets from Grand Theft Auto VI. One of the hackers, an 18-year-old tied to Lapsus$, was later ordered into indefinite hospitalization.
