Sonos Unveils $449 Ace Ultra Headphones With Speaker Audio Swapping

Sonos has released two new products, the Ace Ultra headphones and the Beam Ultra soundbar, as part of an update to its audio lineup. Both are designed to work together more closely, making it simpler to swap sound between devices around the house.

The new $449 Sonos Ace Ultra builds on Sonos’ first over-ear headphones from 2024. A key feature of the previous model was Audio Swap, which allowed users to transfer audio from a soundbar to the headphones with a button press. According to the company, the new Ace Ultra expands this functionality to include compatible speakers, enabling users to move music, streaming, or TV audio between the headphones, soundbars, and speakers.

This expanded swap feature is currently being offered exclusively through an Early Access program, requiring users to opt in to try the new capability.

On the hardware side, the Ace Ultra features a 40mm driver and adaptive Active Noise Cancellation (ANC). Sonos states the headphones are built on a new “Headphone Engine 2,” offering double the ANC performance of the previous generation, alongside new ear pads. Battery life is rated for up to 35 hours, even with ANC enabled. The headphones continue to support lossless audio over Bluetooth or a wired connection.

Alongside the headphones, Sonos introduced the Beam Ultra, a new mid-sized soundbar. The Beam Ultra features nine custom drivers and supports 7.1.2 Dolby Atmos spatial audio. It includes a center channel equipped with four levels of AI speech enhancement and is designed to integrate with compatible portable Sonos speakers to create a full home theater setup.

“Beam Ultra and Sonos Ace Ultra are physical manifestations of what we mean when we say ‘sounds like Sonos’ – they combine next-gen innovation, acoustic design, and audio engineering into something only decades of learning in real homes can create,” said Tom Conrad, CEO of Sonos, in a press release.

The Sonos Ace Ultra and Beam Ultra are available for pre-order starting today, with general availability beginning September 29.

The Ace Ultra is priced at $449, a $50 increase over the standard Ace model. It will be available in two new colorways-Sand, a light brown, and Agave, a deep blue-in addition to the original black and white options.

The Beam Ultra is priced at $699 and is offered in black and white.
