Meta has released a Mac version of Edits, its video editing app connected to Instagram. According to the company, the desktop version is better suited to larger projects that are harder to manage on mobile.
The desktop app is organized in a similar way to the mobile version. Users can layer multiple clips and audio tracks, add effects, and choose music from the app’s library. Meta says the larger screen gives users finer control, which is harder to get on a phone.
In a blog post, Meta said the desktop editor includes a full multi-track timeline, keyframes for animated transitions, and detailed audio waveforms that help editors time cuts to the beat. The company added that splitting, cutting, and trimming are easier, and that color wheels, log conversions, and curves let users give their videos a polished grade.

The Mac version supports keyboard shortcuts and custom fonts. As on mobile, finished videos can be exported without a watermark and posted straight to Instagram from within the app.
When Meta introduced Edits early last year, it was stepping into territory CapCut already owned, since ByteDance’s app was the editor of choice for many TikTok creators. Edits has slowly built a following anyway. On the most recent earnings call, Mark Zuckerberg put the number at more than 50 million active users.
Meta says more desktop features are on the way, including cross-device project syncing. Users would be able to move an in-progress edit between the Mac and mobile apps.
