Google Launches New Windows App to Bring Gemini Closer to Users

Google has released a new app for Windows desktops, with AI playing a central role. It focuses on the Gemini chatbot, so it may not appeal to everyone. However, frequent Gemini users could find it offers a more convenient and integrated experience on Windows.

After installing the app, users can open its search bar by pressing Alt + Space. The search box works similarly to a regular Google search, retrieving information from the web. With AI Mode enabled, it also supports follow-up questions and more detailed exploration.

The app isn’t limited to web searches. It can access files on your computer, data from installed apps, and content stored in Google Drive. It also supports screen sharing, making it possible to use Google Lens for AI-based searches on what appears on your screen.

Google is deploying the app globally starting today, with initial support limited to English. While it isn’t exclusive to Windows 11, it does require devices running Windows 10 or newer.
