MicroProse, best known for its detailed combat flight simulators in the 1990s, has announced its next title, Legendary Pilots, a hybrid of management gameplay and flight simulation scheduled for release on April 21, 2026.
MicroProse made a comeback in 2018 when Australian entrepreneur David Lagettie picked up the rights from the Cybergun Group. He’s best known for building TitanIM, a military simulation engine, but Legendary Pilots goes in a totally different direction compared to both that and the super-detailed flight sims MicroProse used to make.
The new game focuses on regional aviation, combining management gameplay with accessible flight controls. Players oversee both a pilot’s career and an aviation company within a dynamic airline economy. Management includes logistics, staffing, and passenger services, while competition with AI airlines involves planning efficient routes to increase profitability.
Legendary Pilots is developed by Berkbox, a two-person team dedicated to creating unique entertainment products. The flight simulation aspect uses simplified navigation instruments, such as a radio compass, making it more accessible without requiring extensive documentation.
The game features a combination of pixel-art visuals and stylized 3D graphics, a style Berkbox has used in past projects. This direction avoids comparisons with highly realistic titles such as Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, and MicroProse states that Legendary Pilots does not require high-end hardware upgrades.
The announcement comes amid MicroProse’s recent push to return the classic Grand Prix series to digital storefronts. Legendary Pilots is slated to launch exclusively on Steam on April 21, 2026.
