Meta has introduced a new Mac desktop app for its Meta AI chatbot, putting the assistant in more direct competition with desktop AI tools from OpenAI, Google and Anthropic.
According to Meta, Mac users can point Meta AI at a desktop window to have it answer questions, offer suggestions, or create content based on what is on the screen. The app also supports voice dictation for any app.

The launch is part of Meta and Mark Zuckerberg’s bigger plan to put its agentic AI in front of more users, especially small businesses.
Meta also unveiled new features addressed at helping businesses use Meta AI with data from their own accounts.
“This update means you can ask Meta AI questions about your business and get answers drawn from the context only Meta has, like your account engagement and ad performance,” the company says. “Beyond your own accounts, you can get publicly available insights about comparable brands and how they are building their presence on Meta.”
The app will also let users prompt Meta AI to create decks and other presentations using business information, Meta said, and it can provide a clearer understanding of how Meta ad campaigns are performing.
Meta continues to play catch-up with generative AI competitors whose chatbots are more widely used. ChatGPT, Claude and Google’s Gemini AI app already have desktop apps focused on productivity, with Gemini AI allowing users to share a desktop window. ChatGPT’s Mac desktop app and Claude Code and its Cowork assistant are all able to perform assigned tasks across a user’s computer.
