Apple TV is giving subscribers more movies to watch for free with a new collection inside the Apple TV app. The section is called “Great Movies Available Now on Apple TV” and shows up as you scroll down the app.
The collection includes movies such as Arrival, The Sixth Sense, A Beautiful Mind, The Martian, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Zodiac, Gone Girl and Charlie’s Angels. Every movie in the lineup is at least 10 years old.
The selection does not seem to follow a specific genre or theme, although several science-fiction titles appeared in the lineup. The movies available may also vary based on individual viewing habits.
It’s still not clear how long these movies will be available for free. Apple could keep them around permanently, or the selection could change after a while. The lineup may also be different depending on where you live. AppleInsider found the free movie selection for Apple TV subscribers in the UK a little disappointing.
Apple hasn’t really promoted the new feature either. That said, the company has had plenty of success with its original shows and movies. Ted Lasso, now in its fourth season, has picked up multiple Emmys, while Coda won Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor at the 2021 Oscars. It was also the first streaming movie to win Best Picture.
Apple TV comes with a seven-day free trial for new subscribers. Customers who purchase an eligible new Apple device can get three months free as well. After that, the service costs $12.99 per month or $99 annually. Apple TV is also included in Apple One plans, which start at $19.95 per month and bundle it with other Apple services.
