Chinese Smartphone Brands Adopt Apple’s New ‘Liquid Glass’ UI Design

At its annual developer conference, Vivo took the wraps off the next generation of its mobile operating systems, introducing OriginOS 6 for smartphones and BlueOS 3 for its smartwatches. This flagship update for Vivo and iQOO phones promises a significant visual overhaul, centered on a new suite of integrated AI tools.

However, the redesign has immediately captured attention on social media for its pronounced visual kinship with Apple’s iOS. The new interface adopts a “Liquid Glass” theme, characterized by translucent panels, frosted overlays, and a pervasive sense of depth that closely mirrors the latest design language from Cupertino. This influence extends to several key elements: rounded app icons, a hovering dock on the homescreen, and the use of real-time blur effects to create layered, glass-like UI components. Even Vivo’s redesigned native applications maintain this cohesive, glossy appearance.

The resemblance is perhaps most striking on the lockscreen, which features an animated clock that strongly recalls the default Apple design. Furthermore, the update introduces a feature called the ‘Atomic Island,’ a clear homage to the iPhone’s Dynamic Island. Official promotional videos reinforce this parallel, showing music widgets with backgrounds that transition from opaque to translucent, a signature of iOS’s visual style.

Beyond its new look, OriginOS 6 brings meaningful updates beneath the surface. Vivo highlights advancements such as “super-core computing,” a dual-rendering architecture, and “photon storage,” all engineered to deliver notably smoother animations and transitions. The update also brings a powerful suite of new AI features, including an intelligent phone assistant, an object eraser for photos, summary generation, and an enhanced Circle to Search 2.0.

The Vivo X300 Pro, Vivo X300, and iQOO 15 will be the first devices to ship with OriginOS 6 pre-installed. For existing users, the rollout will begin next month, starting with the Vivo X Fold and X200 series, as well as the iQOO 13 and iQOO Neo 10 Pro series. The company plans to bring the update to older devices in waves, with the deployment scheduled to continue from December 2025 through May 2026.
