Mojang Studios announced during Minecraft Live that The Sift will come to Minecraft’s Java and Bedrock Editions in 2027, ending the game’s more-than-decade-long drought of new dimensions.
It will be Minecraft’s first new dimension in more than 15 years. The last was The End, which was introduced with the game’s 1.0 release in late 2011.
Mojang Studios did not reveal much about The Sift, but said some of the new areas players will encounter include the Meadows and the Carapace.
Xbox CEO Asha Sharma also showed off a teaser video of The Sift dimension and a new mob found within it in a post on X. According to Xbox, the upcoming dimension will feature new mobs that can be companions or threats. Xbox only said there will be “new rules to learn” when it comes to gameplay changes.
Players who want a more detailed look at The Sift will find it in Minecraft Dungeons 2, the sequel to Mojang’s dungeon crawler spinoff. Minecraft Dungeons 2 will release on September 29.
The wait for The Sift in Minecraft’s Java and Bedrock versions may be long, but Mojang Studios reiterated that the game will arrive on Nintendo’s Switch 2 on October 27.
