Google’s Gemini Brings a Smarter Way to Explore Search Trends

Google Trends, the long-running service that tracks what the world is searching for, has launched a partial redesign of its Explore page. The update is intended to help journalists, researchers, and creators surface insights more easily, with Google’s Gemini AI now built directly into the analysis process.

Anyone who has used Google Trends knows the friction of trying to guess which related terms might be worth comparing. That guesswork is now being phased out, replaced by a Gemini-powered side panel that automatically surfaces relevant searches based on the user’s starting point.

For example, a search into trending dog breeds now automatically generates a chart comparing up to eight related terms, including breeds like golden retrievers and beagles. A Gemini-powered side panel also suggests broader angles, such as hypoallergenic or large dog breeds, allowing users to explore the data in more depth. Individual terms can be edited, and results refined by country, time period, or search type.

In addition to AI-driven suggestions, the Explore page has been visually refreshed with a focus on readability. Search terms are now marked with distinct icons and colors, making it easier to follow individual lines on the chart. The update also allows users to compare more terms at once and doubles the number of rising queries shown, offering clearer context around why a topic is gaining traction.

The redesigned Trends Explore experience is now rolling out gradually, with initial access limited to desktop users. This update will certainly help more focused and insight-based trend analysis, helping users better understand what people around the world are searching for.
