Grand Theft Auto VI is still one of the most anticipated games in recent years, but it doesn’t yet have a confirmed PC release date. While Take-Two Interactive says consoles are its core audience, leaked information suggests another factor: GTA Online tends to earn much less revenue from PC users than from console players.
In a recent interview with Bloomberg, Strauss Zelnick explained that the company is prioritizing its “core” users when asked about a PC version of GTA 6. This suggests that Take-Two still considers PC to be a secondary platform.
Strauss Zelnick noted that the PC platform is becoming more prominent. In an interview with Bloomberg, he said PC players can represent 45% to 50% of sales for some titles, compared to just 5% for NBA 2K on PC in 2007. He also told CNBC last year that PC and mobile are growing at a faster pace than consoles.
Even so, Strauss Zelnick has not shared details about a PC release for GTA 6. Although many developers now launch on PC and consoles simultaneously, he explained that Rockstar Games has not typically followed that strategy.
The numbers show a stark disparity:
- PlayStation 5: 3,474,021 weekly active users, $4,486,346 in active bookings
- PlayStation 4: 1,889,729 weekly active users, $973,308 in bookings
- PC: 894,621 weekly active users, $264,273 in bookings

In comparison, the PlayStation 5 represents 41% of GTA Online’s weekly active users and 53% of bookings, whereas PC accounts for 11% and 3%. On a per-user basis, the PlayStation 5 generates about $1.29 per week, while PC generates roughly $0.30.

Grand Theft Auto V has sold more than 225 million copies, ranking as the second best-selling game of all time behind Minecraft. Despite its strong retail performance, the bulk of its revenue now comes from GTA Online, where microtransactions and subscriptions play a central role.
Analysts estimate that Grand Theft Auto VI could sell roughly 25 million units on launch day, and even 10 million might be considered below expectations despite being a strong figure. Still, Take-Two is likely more focused on the number of active players in GTA Online.
Following two delays, Grand Theft Auto VI is now set to launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and Series S on November 19. A PC release has yet to be confirmed.
