Snap is almost ready to show off its first standalone AR glasses for everyday users. On September 16, the company will reveal Specs and give people a closer look at what the new wearable can actually do.
The event will be held in Los Angeles at 7 p.m. ET and streamed live for remote viewers. Snap says it will offer the first detailed look at Specs, with CEO Evan Spiegel demonstrating how the glasses blend digital content with the real world.
Snap said Spiegel will demonstrate how Specs integrates AI assistance, productivity tools, entertainment, and shared experiences into everyday life, allowing users to stay engaged with their surroundings while creating, connecting, learning, and completing tasks.
The glasses aren’t cheap, costing $2,195. Preorders have already gone live, and buyers in the U.S., U.K., and France should start receiving them this fall. Snap will likely reveal the exact shipping date at its September 16 presentation.
Snap is launching Specs in 47 mm and 52 mm frame options to improve fit across a wider range of users. The company estimates up to four hours of mixed-use battery life. On the software side, the glasses feature an integrated browser and AI functionality powered by OpenAI and Google, with hundreds of AR Lenses including gaming experiences available from day one.
The first thing many people will notice is how thick the arms of the glasses are. That’s because Snap has packed in two Qualcomm Snapdragon chips, one for computer vision and another to power the AR experience.
