Steam Adds Achievement Sets to Keep Game Completion at 100%

Steam Adds Achievement Sets to Keep Game Completion at 100%

Steam has added a feature called Achievement Sets to the Steam Client beta. It organizes achievements into categories and separates base game achievements from DLC achievements. As a result, new content from developers won’t change a player’s completion percentage.

Developers need to update their games to add specific collections, and each one has a defined purpose. Steam says a growing number of games already support this. Collections can be used to group achievements by category, like single-player and multiplayer, or to create seasonal sets such as a Halloween event.

On a player’s profile, unlocked achievements will now appear grouped by collection. Each set carries its own progress bar, and players who finish every achievement in a collection can show off a “set complete” trophy. Steam says a set will keep reading 100 percent even if the developer adds more achievements to it later.

Collections come in two types, Base Game Achievement Sets and DLC Achievement Sets. Base game trophies and their progress bar are blue on the achievements page, and DLC achievements and progress bars are purple. DLC sets are left out of overall game progress until the player has access to the related DLC, so they don’t change the completion figure.

The achievements page got a fresh look as well, built around sets and progress. Now players can pull up to three friends alongside you and see who’s earned the rarest achievements and who’s finished the most sets.
