Apple confirmed Monday, September 9, as the date for its next iPhone launch event. The keynote kicks off at 1 PM ET and will stream live on the company’s website and YouTube channel.
The event carries extra weight this year, marking not just a hardware unveiling but a leadership transition. It will be John Ternus’s first iPhone launch as Apple’s new CEO, following Tim Cook’s departure from the role on September 1.
And then there’s the foldable rumor everyone’s talking about. Apparently there’s evidence buried in the iOS 27 code hinting Apple’s building one, maybe called the “iPhone Ultra,” that unfolds into something like a mini iPad.
This could also mean a change in Apple’s usual release pattern. The iPhone 18 Pro lineup is expected to launch at this event, but the standard iPhone 18, iPhone Air 2, and iPhone 18e reportedly won’t arrive until spring 2027, spreading the rollout out more than in past years.
AI is expected to be the main focus of the event. Apple has signaled that it now sits at the center of its entire ecosystem, a shift the company first outlined at WWDC in June. Rather than presenting updates OS by OS, Apple described a unified, cross-platform vision centered on a redesigned “Siri AI” and Apple Intelligence.
Apple is reportedly working on several other products to plug into this AI ecosystem, including new iPads, a revised HomePod mini, an updated Apple TV box, and a smart home display. However, sources say the September event will stay focused on the iPhone, following Apple’s usual pattern.
