Meet the Smartphone That Supports Android, Linux, and Windows 11

Nex Computer has introduced the NexPhone, a smartphone designed to bridge the gap between mobile and desktop computing. Unusually, the device supports Android, Linux, and Windows 11, giving users access to multiple computing environments from a single device.

According to Nex CEO and founder Emre Kosmaz, the NexPhone is designed as a standard Android 16 device that can also run Linux on demand and dual-boot into Windows 11 ARM. “NexPhone is the device I’ve wanted to carry for 14 years: a phone that becomes your Linux machine, your Windows PC, and your everyday Android device – without compromise on the idea,” Kosmaz stated.

After 14 years in the making, dating back to an early concept in 2012, the NexPhone has finally taken its current form. It comes with a tough, rugged build, a Qualcomm QCM6490 chip, 12GB of RAM, and up to 256GB of storage. The phone also sports a 6.58-inch 120Hz display, plus extras like microSD expansion, 5G, wireless charging, video output, and a 64MP Sony IMX787 camera.

The company isn’t pitching the NexPhone as a flagship killer. Instead, it’s positioning the device as a productivity companion, something you’d use alongside your main phone or keep as a backup. That idea fits with the wider move toward desktop-like phone experiences, such as Samsung DeX and the new desktop features coming with Android 16.

All three operating systems are capable of running on the NexPhone’s internal display, including a custom Windows 11 interface styled after Windows Phone. That said, the device is optimized for use with an external monitor, keyboard, and mouse. Nex has already laid the groundwork for this ecosystem with the NexDock, a 14-inch lapdock that effectively turns supported phones into laptops. Kosmaz said the NexPhone represents the most flexible realization yet of the phone-as-PC model.

The NexPhone is currently available for reservation with a $200 deposit, with full shipments planned for the third quarter of this year. Nex expects the final price to be $550, excluding shipping and taxes, and the package includes a complimentary USB-C hub.
