Android users are getting a new way to filter through app reviews. Since many people depend on Play Store ratings and feedback, searching through large numbers of comments has often been inconvenient. The new search feature will lets users look for specific topics within reviews, making the Play Store a bit easier to use.
The feature is rolling out with the latest Play Store update, version 50.7.24-31. Google confirmed the release in its official support documentation after several months of limited testing.

To use the new review search, users can open an app listing and tap the star rating to access the full “All reviews” page. A magnifying glass icon appears beneath the AI-generated summary, and selecting it moves the review section to the top, where a search bar becomes available. Entering a phrase and tapping the keyboard’s search button filters reviews that contain matching text.

The feature currently depends on exact keyword matches. Results don’t appear in real time, and single-word searches often produce no matches. Users typically need to enter short phrases or combine terms to find relevant reviews. Suggested queries are also shown below the search bar, highlighting commonly reported issues.
The current version of review search does not include semantic understanding, so users must rely on exact wording. Future updates could change this if Google introduces support for contextual or natural language queries, which would make the feature more effective for analyzing sentiment or finding specific problems.
For now, Google advises users who don’t see the feature to manually update the Play Store. This can be done by tapping the profile icon, navigating to Settings > About, and selecting Update Play Store.
While limited in scope, the Play Store review search contributes to a more data-informed approach to app selection and improves transparency in how users evaluate software.
