AMD Points to Native Game Support Gap on MacBook Neo

In a new advertising campaign, AMD compares Apple’s MacBook Neo with a Ryzen-based Windows laptop, focusing on gaming support. The company points to the Neo’s relatively small selection of native PC games and claims that only five of the twenty most popular PC titles run on the device without requiring workarounds.

The timing of the campaign follows the MacBook Neo’s successful launch, which saw the device outsell both the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro during its first three weeks on the market. More than 1.1 million units were sold in under a month at a starting price of $599. AMD is now promoting its Ryzen AI processor family to consumers seeking affordable laptop options.

The ad compares the MacBook Neo, powered by Apple’s A18 Pro chip, with an HP OmniBook X Flip featuring a Zen 4-based Ryzen 5 220 processor and Radeon 740M graphics. AMD highlights the Windows laptop’s compatibility with game libraries from Steam, Epic, and PC Game Pass, stating that users can enjoy high frame rates and advanced graphics without relying on workarounds.

The ad also focuses on hardware features outside of gaming. AMD notes that the HP OmniBook X Flip includes 512 GB of storage, a 2-in-1 touchscreen design, and more connectivity options than the MacBook Neo. According to the company, the Ryzen-based system provides 57% better multitasking performance, 38% faster content creation, and up to twice the Wi-Fi speed. The laptop starts at $999, compared with the Neo’s $599 base price.

The comparison is somewhat unusual because the MacBook Neo is not typically marketed or purchased as a dedicated gaming device. As a result, the differences in game availability between macOS and Windows are largely expected. AMD’s performance claims may also warrant closer examination. The integrated Radeon 740M is generally suited to less demanding games, often requiring lower graphics settings for smooth performance. At the same time, the MacBook Neo has demonstrated stronger-than-expected results in several PC games despite its hardware limitations.
