Apple Reportedly Planning Two New Apple Pencil Models for Early 2027

Apple is said to be developing two new Apple Pencil models with improved repairability. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that the changes are meant to comply with new European Union regulations covering user-replaceable batteries.

The refreshed Apple Pencil lineup is reportedly set to debut in the first half of 2027 alongside new iPad models. It would be the first major update in nearly three years for the USB-C version and two years for the Apple Pencil Pro.

The report says Apple is developing an entry-level Apple Pencil under the codename B582 as an update to the current USB-C version. A second model, identified as B632, is expected to succeed the Apple Pencil Pro. Although the current Pro features a squeeze sensor in the barrel, the next version may focus on a design that is easier to repair.

The report says Apple’s move toward a more repairable design is driven by upcoming European Union requirements for user-replaceable batteries in consumer electronics. Those regulations are expected to influence how future Apple Pencil models are built.

That change could finally fix one of the biggest complaints about the Apple Pencil. Apple has previously adjusted its product designs to meet European Union regulations. One example was the adoption of USB-C on the iPhone 15 lineup in 2023, a move widely linked to the EU‘s common charger rules.
