A new report says Apple may be working on a Siri update that automatically clears chat history, which could help it feel different from the growing list of AI chatbots out there.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the updated Siri will include an auto-delete feature similar to one already available in Apple’s Messages app. Users can choose to keep Siri chat history for 30 days, one year, or forever. Another setting will allow them to decide whether Siri remembers past conversations or starts each interaction fresh.
The feature would differ from how many large language models operate, as they often use conversation data to improve performance and personalization. According to Gurman, Apple has taken a more cautious approach by training its AI with synthetic data rather than real user interactions. Although this has contributed to views that Apple trails competitors in AI, the company may position it as a trade-off designed to prioritize privacy.
Apple has spent years making privacy a big part of its identity. Even in the relatively brief history of AI chatbots, some companies have already had to turn over chat logs during lawsuits or criminal investigations. Services like ChatGPT offer features such as Temporary Chat for more private conversations, but Gurman says Apple sees privacy as something that should come built in, not something users have to switch on.
The new Siri is expected to make its debut at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference, which begins on June 8, 2026.
