Apple has agreed to pay $250 million to settle claims that it misled iPhone buyers about the release of an upgraded Siri powered by Apple Intelligence. The class action lawsuit, first reported by the Financial Times, alleged Apple promoted a more personalized Siri during WWDC 2024, but the AI assistant has yet to launch nearly two years later.
If the court signs off on the deal, U.S. buyers of the iPhone 16 series and iPhone 15 Pro could receive compensation for expecting the new Siri features on their devices. Even so, Apple wouldn’t have to admit it did anything wrong by promoting AI tools that missed their launch window.
Across 2024 and 2025, Apple released several Apple Intelligence features, including text editing tools, image generation, and ChatGPT integration. However, the upgraded Siri designed to understand device context and carry out actions within apps has yet to launch.
Apple did not publicly confirm the delay until March 2025, over five months after the launch of the iPhone 16. The company had advertised the device as supporting Apple Intelligence capabilities.
Following news of the delay, Apple removed marketing materials that showcased the new Siri features ahead of the iPhone launch. The company is now said to be preparing the updated assistant for release later this year, supported in part by a partnership with Google and its Gemini AI models. The feature is reportedly planned for iOS 27 along with other AI capabilities.
