Anthropic Launches Claude Docs to Create and Edit Documents in Chat

Anthropic has added a new feature called Claude Docs, which allows Claude to generate documents for users during a conversation. Users can request something like a one-page summary, and it appears directly in the chat. Documents are private by default but can be shared with others for collaboration. They can also be edited in Claude or exported to Google Docs or Microsoft Word.

Anthropic has also added the ability to create slides and presentations directly in chat, so users no longer need to switch to Claude Design. When a user asks Claude to build a presentation, the slides appear in the conversation. From there, they can be edited directly or downloaded as a PowerPoint or PDF file.

Anthropic is also merging Cowork and Artifacts into one unified interface. Cowork, a mode inside the Claude app, relies on agentic AI to carry out multi-step tasks-reading through work documents, for instance, and then producing new documents, slides, and spreadsheets in response. Artifacts, meanwhile, are saved pieces of content-documents, HTML websites, diagrams-that live in a sidebar so users can find them again later.

According to Anthropic, Design was originally built as a dedicated space for visual work, while Cowork was meant for larger, more complex projects. But the split has caused confusion, the company said, with users often unsure which tool to start in-particularly since work begun in one doesn’t transfer to the other.

Basically, Anthropic wants everything under one roof now – they’re calling it “One Claude.” The idea is that Claude figures out what you need on the fly, so you get all the Cowork and Design capabilities no matter which conversation you’re in, plus all your existing context, skills, and connectors.

The changes will roll out to Pro and Max subscribers over the next few weeks on web, desktop, and mobile. Team and Free plan users will receive the update “soon,” according to Anthropic.
