Firefox Introduces AI Guardrails on Mobile

Mozilla is giving users more control over AI in Firefox 151 on iOS and Android. With a new toggle, people can turn off all generative AI features in one go, something you still don’t see often from big tech companies.

Alongside the main toggle, the mobile browser lets users choose which AI features remain enabled. For example, someone can keep on-device translation or voice search active while disabling other AI-based tools. Several of these features arrive with Firefox 151, showing Mozilla’s focus on offering optional AI features rather than mandatory ones.

The new mobile settings follow a system Firefox introduced on desktop in February, when the same opt-out controls first became available. That move was widely seen as a break from industry habits, where AI features are often enabled by default or tucked away in layers of settings.

Mozilla has also become more active in wider AI discussions. The nonprofit recently participated in Anthropic’s Project Glasswing, contributing insights into how AI can introduce cybersecurity challenges while also creating new ways to address them. The organization continues to advocate for transparency and user control as AI becomes more common online.
