YouTube is increasing the cost of its Premium subscriptions across the United States and dozens of other countries, marking its first U.S. price increase since 2023 and pushing monthly fees up by as much as $4 for ad-free viewing.
The new pricing takes effect immediately for new subscribers. The standard YouTube Premium individual plan now costs $15.99 per month, up from $13.99, while the family plan rises from $22.99 to $26.99 per month. The annual individual subscription has also increased, moving from $139.99 to $159.99 per year.

The changes also affect Premium Lite, YouTube’s lower-priced subscription tier launched last year. Its monthly fee is increasing from $7.99 to $8.99, while the plan continues to offer ad-free viewing on most videos without including YouTube Music, background playback, or downloads.
YouTube first alerted users to the upcoming price increases in April. The new rates are now in effect for new subscribers, while existing customers will see the higher charges applied as their subscriptions come up for renewal.
The latest increase follows several years of stable pricing in the United States. YouTube last adjusted Premium rates in 2023, raising the individual plan from $11.99 to $13.99 per month and the family plan from $17.99 to $22.99. That same year, the company also increased the price of YouTube TV by $8 to $73 per month, with the service now costing $82.99.
The latest price increases are not limited to North America. Subscribers across South America, Europe, the Asia-Pacific region, and the Middle East are also affected, marking YouTube’s first large-scale pricing update since 2024.
Many subscribers reacted negatively to the news, voicing disappointment across social media and online forums. In response, YouTube said the updated pricing is intended to help improve the Premium experience and support creators and artists on the platform.
Alongside the price increases, YouTube is introducing new features for Premium subscribers. One addition, called Auto Speed, can automatically adjust playback speed while preserving audio quality. The company is also testing a new mode known as On-the-go, which reduces on-screen distractions when users are listening to content such as podcasts and talk shows.
