X has quietly introduced a sharp new posting limit for users who don’t pay for a blue checkmark, significantly tightening the daily activity allowed on the platform for unverified accounts.
According to the X Help Center page on limits, unverified accounts are now restricted to “50 original posts and 200 replies per day.” The change, which has been highlighted by users on X and Reddit, marks a drastic reduction from the previous daily cap of 2,400 updates, visible in cached versions of the same Help Center page. Notably, the updated page still references the older 2,400-per-day restriction even as it states the lower limits.
When a user hits one of the new thresholds, X will display an error message indicating which limit has been reached.

The platform has not made a public announcement about the adjustment, but the restriction appears to align with X’s broader efforts to curb spam and bot activity. In October, the company introduced an “about this account” feature that surfaces information about an account’s location, a move similarly aimed at increasing transparency and reducing inauthentic behavior.
Some users have reacted negatively to the change, warning that the new limits could drive more people away from the platform. Users looking to avoid the daily restrictions can subscribe to X Premium’s Basic plan, priced at $3 per month or $32 annually.
