Nearly four years after releasing the Momentum 4, Sennheiser is rolling out a successor that keeps a similar look but brings major internal upgrades called Sennheiser Momentum 5. The Momentum 5 Wireless launches June 16 at $400, up $50 from the previous model, with the company emphasizing improvements in sound quality and active noise cancellation.
At first glance, the design feels familiar, with few visible changes from the previous model. Most of the updates are hidden beneath the earpads. Sennheiser continues to use the same 42mm transducer system introduced in the Momentum 4, drawing on technology inspired by the HD 600 series and tuned for richer sound and stronger bass response. This time, however, the company adds Hi-Res Audio certification and Snapdragon Sound support, enabling Bluetooth playback through codecs up to aptX Lossless. The Smart Control Plus app also expands customization with an 8-band equalizer, listening presets, and sound personalization tools. The Momentum 5 works with the BTD 700 Bluetooth dongle, which launched alongside the HDB 630 headphones.
Sennheiser is also counting on software updates to expand the headphones’ audio features after launch. A firmware update arriving on day one will introduce Dolby Atmos with head tracking for supported streaming content. At release, the Momentum 5 supports Dolby Atmos, though without the added spatial head-tracking effect. On the hardware side, the headphones ship with Bluetooth 5.4 and are built to support Bluetooth 6.0 through a future firmware update.
Sennheiser is upgrading active noise cancellation through a revised microphone setup. The Momentum 5 doubles the microphone count from two to four per ear cup, a change designed to strengthen ANC performance across different listening conditions. According to the company, the most noticeable improvement is voice suppression, with claims of up to three times better cancellation of human speech. The expanded mic array is also expected to improve call quality and voice naturalness.
Battery life is slightly lower on the Momentum 5, though the difference is relatively small. The Momentum 4 was rated for up to 60 hours with ANC enabled, while the newer model is rated for 57 hours. A quick-charge feature provides up to three hours of playback after five minutes of charging. Sennheiser has also made the 700mAh battery user-replaceable, requiring only a small Phillips-head screwdriver.
The Momentum 5 Wireless will be offered in black, white, and blue colorways when it launches on June 16 for $400.
