After a long wait, Meta is testing a redesigned Threads web interface that finally brings direct messaging into the mix. Along with it comes smoother navigation and simpler access to the platform’s main features.
Connor Hayes, Meta’s head of Threads, has previewed a refreshed web interface that brings an inbox feature long available on mobile since last June. The update also adds new shortcuts along the left rail, including saved posts, insights, activity, and feed switching.
Despite being available on the web platform, these features have remained relatively inaccessible. For example, “insights” is currently limited to profile navigation or access via a pinned column.
The most important part of the update is the arrival of Threads’ messaging inbox on the web, something users have been waiting for. It’s been part of the mobile app since June 2024, leaving web users behind for nearly ten months.
Hayes said Meta has already started testing the new design and noted that the company plans to invest more in the experience moving forward. A rollout date has yet to be confirmed.
Meta has paid relatively little attention to the Threads website in recent months. The last major update arrived in April 2024, adding basic functionality, while development has largely shifted toward the mobile app.
Some newer features highlight the divide between the app and web versions. For instance, disappearing “ghost posts” can be viewed on the web but are only creatable through the mobile app.
The web redesign follows comments from Hayes a day earlier, when he previewed changes to how replies are displayed on the Threads mobile app. The update introduces slight indentation beneath posts to improve readability, and is currently rolling out on iOS while undergoing testing on Android.
