Netflix’s second-quarter shareholder letter provides a clearer look at how the company is using artificial intelligence. It says generative AI has been part of the workflow for roughly 300 titles in 2026, with post-production accounting for most of its use.

Netflix singled out three projects where generative AI helped produce complex scenes: Glory (India), Brasil 70: A Saga do Tri (Brazil), and The American Experiment (US). But the company says those aren’t special cases anymore; AI is gradually becoming a regular part of how many of its shows and films are made.

The latest disclosure expands on earlier reports that Netflix had already used generative AI in at least one original production by July last year. Since then, it has expanded those efforts through acquisitions and specialized internal studios. The company said in its earnings letter that it is “increasingly leveraging these tools to deliver higher quality output more quickly and at a lower cost than traditional methods.”

It’s easy to see why studios are embracing generative AI. It can save time and cut production costs compared with traditional VFX and animation. But that doesn’t mean it can run on its own. Most industry professionals say skilled artists are still essential to guide the process and make sure the final result actually works on screen. As more studios lean into AI, the bigger conversation about jobs, ethics, and quality isn’t going away.
